Image

Image

Image
(Από τα  Ποιήματα 1897-1933 , Ίκαρος 1984) Walls Without consideration, without pity, without shame they have built great and high walls around me. And now I sit here and despair. I think of nothing else: this fate gnaws at my mind; for I had many things to do outside. Ah why did I not pay attention when they were building the walls.  But I never heard any noise or sound of builders. Imperceptibly they shut me from the outside world.

Amanda Gorman - The hill we climb

Image
Amanda Gorman - The hill we climb  When day comes, we ask ourselves where can we find light in this never-ending shade? The loss we carry, a sea we must wade. We’ve braved the belly of the beast. We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace, and the norms and notions of what “just” is isn’t always justice. And yet, the dawn is ours before we knew it. Somehow we do it. Somehow we’ve weathered and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken, but simply unfinished. We, the successors of a country and a time where a skinny Black girl descended from slaves and raised by a single mother can dream of becoming president, only to find herself reciting for one. And yes, we are far from polished, far from pristine, but that doesn’t mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect. We are striving to forge our union with purpose. To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters, and conditions of man. And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us, but what stands ...

War is kind - Stephen Crane - Ο πόλεμος είναι καλός

Image
EN/GR    Do not weep, maiden, for war is kind.   Because your lover threw wild hands toward the sky  And the affrighted steed ran on alone,  Do not weep.  War is kind.        Hoarse, booming drums of the regiment,        Little souls who thirst for fight,        These men were born to drill and die.        The unexplained glory flies above them,        Great is the battle-god, great, and his kingdom—        A field where a thousand corpses lie.  Do not weep, babe, for war is kind.  Because your father tumbled in the yellow trenches,  Raged at his breast, gulped and died,  Do not weep.  War is kind.        Swift, blazing flag of the regiment,       ...

My mind to me a kingdom is - Sir Edward Dyer

Image
Sir Edward Dyer (October 1543 – May 1607) was an English courtier and poet.  EN/GR My mind to me a kingdom is; Such perfect joy therein I find  That it excels all other bliss  Which God or nature hath assign’d.  Though much I want that most would have,  Yet still my mind forbids to crave.  No princely port, nor wealthy store,  No force to win a victory,  No wily wit to salve a sore,  No shape to win a loving eye;  To none of these I yield as thrall, - For why? my mind despise them all.  I see that plenty surfeit oft,  And hasty climbers soonest fall;  I see that such as are aloft  Mishap doth threaten most of all.  These get with toil and keep with fear;  Such cares my mind can never bear. I press to bear no haughty sway,  I wish no more than may suffice,  I do no more than well I may,  Look, what I want my mind supplies.  Lo! thus I triumph like a king,  My mind content with anythi...
